Written reply to Dr WALSH by Dr BLUNDELL: The division of Layers1 and 2 into Neogene and Palaeogene does not depend on any suppositionof the age of the post-Liassic sediments of the Mochras bore-hole.Although comparisons are made in the paper, it should be emphasizedthat the reflection characteristics of the stratified sequenceof Layer 1 in St. George's Channel and of Layer 2 both differfrom the Mochras sediments and even if they are of about thesame age they are likely to have different lithologies.
