A new deep seismic profile recorded west of Ireland by the British Institutions Reflection Profiling Syndicate (BIRPS) images prominent north-dipping reflectors west of the Shannon estuary. Qualitatively similar north-dipping reflectors have been imaged on previous BIRPS profiles recorded across the Solway Line both east and west of Britain, and have there been interpreted as structures related to the Iapetus suture. By analogy with these other north-dipping reflectors, and because the newly discovered reflectors lie close to previously hypothesized locations of the Iapetus suture, the structures seen on the new BIRPS profile are here interpreted as representing part of the Iapetus suture zone.
