Award winners 2015: Back row, left to right: Dr Mitchall D'Arcy (Wollaston Fund) for his work in the sensitivity of sediment routing systems to climate change; Mr Sebastian Elliott (Neil Duncan Award); Dr Craig Magee (Murchison Fund) for his work on determining how sub-volcanic igneous intrusions are emplaced, and how they affect basin evolution and the building of volcanic edifices; Dr Tracy Aze (Lyell Fund) for her work in areas including palaeobiology of foraminifera, evolutionary science, climate change and ocean acidification; Dr Anja Schmidt (William Smith Fund) for her work on the impacts of volcanic eruptions on air quality, aircraft hazard and palaeoclimate; Mr Paul Denton (R H Worth Prize) for his work in the ‘School Seismology’ Programme.

Second Row, left to right: Prof. Henry Emeleus (Prestwich Medal) for his 60 year career in the service of the geological community; Mr Edmund Nickless (Distinguished Service Award) for all of his work as Executive Secretary of the Society; Prof. John Underhill (Lyell Medal) for his contributions to the understanding of UK Continental Shelf geology.

Third row, left to right: Prof. Michael de Freitas (William Smith Medal) for his work in the areas of rock and soil slopes, the shear-strength of clean and infilled rock surfaces, comminution within shear-zones, rock and mineral reaction to water, weak rocks and the nature of boundary layers; Dr Ann Victoria Rowan (President's Award) for her work in glaciers and climate change; Prof. Patience Cowie (Coke Medal) for revolutionizing our understanding of the growth and interaction of faults; Prof. Monica Grady (Coke Medal) for her extensive work on meteorites and her outstanding contribution to the public understanding of science.

Front Row, left to right: Prof. Richard Howarth (Sue Tyler Friedman Medal) for his work on finding and using statistical techniques useful in the interpretation and analysis of geological data; Prof Susan Brantley (Wollaston Medal) for her work relating to fluid-mineral reactions in low-temperature environments; the tectonic, climatic and environmental implications of these processes and the importance of biology in these reactions; and CO2 emissions from volcanoes and faults; Prof. David Manning (President); Mr Huw Clarke (President's Award) for work in induced seismicity and hydrology; Prof. Jon Blundy FRS (Murchison Medal) for his career in petrology.

Not pictured: Liane G Benning (Bigsby Medal) for her achievements as a pioneer of environmental geosciences; Catherine Mével (Distinguished Service Award) for her work as a principal driving force behind the European component of the first decade of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Programme as well as her distinguished leadership of the European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD).
